Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), Nepal’s main gateway for domestic and international air travel, has been temporarily closed following a technical issue with its runway edge lighting system. The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) confirmed that both domestic and international flights have been put on hold until the problem is resolved.
According to airport officials, the issue was detected earlier today during regular operations, prompting immediate suspension of flight movements for safety reasons. Technicians are currently working on-site to restore the lighting system, which is essential for safe aircraft landings and takeoffs, especially during low visibility conditions and nighttime operations.

The temporary shutdown has caused delays and diversions of several incoming and outgoing flights, affecting hundreds of passengers. Airlines have been advised to keep travelers informed about flight rescheduling and updates.
CAAN officials stated that they are making every effort to fix the technical fault as soon as possible, and flight operations will resume once the runway lights are fully functional and cleared for use.
