Rishing Rural Municipality–3’s Dubung area in Tanahun district is steadily gaining recognition as an emerging tourism destination, thanks to its abundant natural beauty and increasing promotion. With the rise in publicity, particularly through social media, Dubung has started attracting a growing number of domestic tourists, signaling its potential to become one of the district’s notable tourism hubs.
Tanahun is home to several locations rich in tourism prospects, but Dubung has recently stood out as a destination that is rapidly capturing the attention of internal visitors. Nestled on the hillside, the area offers more than just scenic landscapes. Its charm lies in a unique blend of natural beauty, traditional hill lifestyle, agro-tourism opportunities, panoramic viewpoints, and historical reflections that together create a holistic travel experience.

Local Voices Highlight Untapped Potential
Resident Hom Bahadur Ranabhat believes that Dubung’s attractive geography and pristine environment, if promoted in a planned and systematic manner, could significantly boost tourism development. According to him, the growing circulation of photographs and videos on social media platforms has played a vital role in drawing attention to the area. “As images of Dubung started appearing online, the place gradually came into the spotlight, and the number of visitors has noticeably increased,” he said.
Similarly, Indra Bahadur Ale, another local, emphasized that Dubung’s natural allure alone is strong enough to attract both domestic and international tourists if properly promoted. He noted that the expansion of tea gardens and the development of viewing points in recent times have further enhanced Dubung’s appeal. These attractions not only beautify the landscape but also provide visitors with serene spaces to relax and enjoy nature.
Expanding Attractions at Bhalthumke
One of the key highlights of the area is Bhalthumke, where a large-scale tea garden has been expanded in recent years. The site has been gradually developed as a recreational spot, featuring a children’s park, picnic areas, and designated viewpoints. These additions have made Bhalthumke a family-friendly destination and a popular stop for visitors seeking leisure and scenic enjoyment.
Although the access road to the area remains unpaved, causing some inconvenience for travelers, visitors say the experience at the top more than compensates for the journey. Domestic tourist Ishwar Bastola shared that while the rough road poses challenges, the breathtaking scenery upon reaching the summit leaves a lasting impression. “Once you see the view from the top, you forget all the difficulties of the road,” he remarked.
Panoramic Himalayan Views
Dubung’s proximity to the district headquarters, Damauli, further adds to its tourism potential. From this vantage point, visitors can enjoy spectacular views of major Himalayan ranges, including Machhapuchhre, Annapurna, and Dhaulagiri. Bastola explained that the sight of rolling hills, layered ridges, and clouds draped like veils over the landscape creates a mesmerizing atmosphere that captivates the mind and soul.
The area’s scenic diversity, ranging from lush green hills to distant snow-capped peaks, offers ample opportunities for photography, nature walks, and quiet retreats, making it especially attractive to nature lovers and urban dwellers seeking respite.
Historical and Cultural Significance
Beyond natural attractions, Dubung also carries historical significance. Structures resembling traditional royal seats (kurchi) have been constructed to reflect the legacy of the Baise-Chaubise era kings, including the Tanunge, Bhirkote, and Dubunge rulers. These elements provide visitors with a glimpse into the region’s historical past and add cultural depth to the destination.

From Dubung, visitors can observe sweeping views of surrounding areas such as Rishing, Gwaslung, Kahushivpur, Manung, Chhimkeshwori, Chhipchhipe, Cheranga, Mauribas, Kafaldanda, Bhirkot, and Thaprek. Resident Madhu Maya Ranabhat noted that despite the southern belt of the district being exceptionally beautiful, it has not received adequate priority from concerned authorities.
Call for Infrastructure and Promotion
Local communities strongly believe that with improved tourism infrastructure and focused promotional efforts, Dubung and the Bhalthumke area could be developed into one of Tanahun’s most important viewpoint destinations. Better road access, basic facilities, and coordinated promotion could not only attract more visitors but also contribute to local livelihoods and sustainable rural development. As awareness grows, Dubung appears well on its way to becoming a favored destination for nature and culture enthusiasts alike.
