Second Ichchhakamana Orange and Food Festival Kicks Off in Muglin Bazaar

The much-anticipated second Ichchhakamana Orange Festival and Food Festival officially began today in Muglin Bazaar. The festival is jointly organized by the Chitwan Industry Association Ichchhakamana Committee and the Hotel Entrepreneurs Association Ichchhakamana Unit, aiming to promote local agriculture, culinary heritage, and tourism in the region.

Festival Aims to Boost Tourism and Local Economy

Ramhari Kandel, President of the Chitwan Industry Association Ichchhakamana Committee, highlighted that the festival has been organized to attract both domestic and international tourists. He emphasized that the event is designed not only to showcase Ichchhakamana oranges but also to promote the wider range of local products, arts, and culture.

“The festival is a platform to put Ichchhakamana on the tourism map while supporting our local farmers,” Kandel said. According to him, over 50 stalls have been set up to display a variety of products ranging from fresh oranges to traditional handicrafts and local delicacies.

Direct Benefits for Local Orange Farmers

The organizers noted that the festival will directly benefit approximately 100 local orange farmers, who will have the opportunity to sell their produce and interact with visitors and stakeholders. The event is expected to generate both immediate income through direct sales and long-term recognition for the farmers’ products in broader markets.

“This festival is an important opportunity for local farmers to increase their visibility and earn higher revenues for their hard work,” Kandel added. The festival is not just an exhibition; it is a business and cultural event that bridges producers, consumers, and tourism stakeholders.

Showcasing Local Arts, Culture, and Traditions

In addition to promoting agricultural products, the festival aims to preserve and promote local arts, culture, and traditions. Various cultural programs are planned, including traditional music, dance performances, and craft displays. Organizers stressed that the festival is an ideal platform for visitors to experience the rich heritage of Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality.

The event will also feature interactive sessions where expert farmers and local representatives engage with the community, providing insights into modern farming techniques, sustainable agriculture, and innovations in orange cultivation. This knowledge-sharing component is expected to empower local producers and enhance the overall quality of agricultural output in the region.

Fun-Filled Activities and Competitions

Adding an element of entertainment, the festival will host orange-eating competitions, cooking demonstrations, and contests that encourage participation from visitors of all ages. These activities are designed to make the festival enjoyable while raising awareness about Ichchhakamana’s agricultural potential and the nutritional value of oranges.

Chairperson Kandel noted that such interactive and fun events help attract more visitors and provide additional opportunities for farmers and entrepreneurs to showcase their products creatively.

Economic Significance for Ichchhakamana Farmers

Danbahadur Gurung, Chair of Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality, highlighted the economic impact of orange cultivation in the area. He stated that local farmers annually generate transactions worth Rs 9 million to 10 million from orange production alone. The festival is expected to further boost these revenues by connecting farmers with a wider customer base and strengthening the local economy.

Gurung added that the municipality is committed to supporting initiatives that help increase productivity, quality, and market access for local farmers. He also urged stakeholders, including tourists and local businesses, to participate actively in the festival and support the region’s agricultural growth.

Promoting Ichchhakamana as a Tourism Destination

The Ichchhakamana Orange and Food Festival represents more than just an agricultural event; it is part of a larger strategy to promote the area as a vibrant tourism destination. By combining local produce, cultural heritage, and culinary experiences, the festival is expected to attract visitors from across Nepal and beyond, generating both economic and social benefits for the community.

The organizers expressed optimism that the festival will strengthen the local tourism ecosystem, enhance farmers’ livelihoods, and encourage greater investment in Ichchhakamana’s agricultural and cultural sectors.
