The District Hotel Entrepreneurs Association (DHEA), Kathmandu, successfully concluded its Seventh Annual General Meeting (AGM) today at the Pabera Heritage Boutique Hotel, Budhanilkantha. The event brought together hotel owners, tourism stakeholders, and media representatives to review achievements, discuss future plans, and strengthen collaboration within Kathmandu’s hospitality sector.
Strengthening Tourism Through Collaboration
The AGM highlighted DHEA’s ongoing commitment to promoting Kathmandu as a premier tourism destination. Under the banner of the “Visit Kathmandu – Stay with Members” campaign, the association plans to actively promote member hotels and integrate them into national and international tourism marketing platforms.

Programs to enhance business quality and competitiveness were outlined, including regular hospitality excellence training, food safety and HACCP courses, housekeeping and front office management workshops, as well as taxation, accounting, and legal guidance. Special entrepreneurial training for women and youth, along with disaster management and fire safety programs, were also emphasized.
Furthermore, the association aims to strengthen its units, expand membership, and recognize outstanding businesses and units. Economic empowerment initiatives include collaboration with banks, financial institutions, insurance companies, and suppliers to offer preferential loans, insurance packages, and cost discounts on essential hotel supplies.
Tourism Promotion Initiatives
A key focus of DHEA is to enhance Kathmandu’s appeal as a tourist destination through organized events and campaigns. Planned programs include the Kathmandu Hotel Festival, local cuisine festivals, cultural evenings, and participation in international tourism fairs. Internal tourism promotion under the campaign “Ghumau Kathmandu” is also planned to attract domestic tourists.
Information and communication strengthening initiatives include maintaining updated databases of member hotels, active social media engagement, and regular dissemination of relevant tourism trends and market analysis. Corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities, such as environmental cleanliness drives, health camps, and blood donation programs, also form an essential part of DHEA’s initiatives.

Nepal Tourism Board Pledges Support
The AGM was graced by the presence of Mr. Deepak Raj Joshi, CEO of the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), as the chief guest. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between DHEA and NTB to bolster Kathmandu’s tourism potential.
“NTB is committed to promoting the efforts of district hotel entrepreneurs. We will work closely with DHEA to integrate member hotels into national and international tourism campaigns, including those linked to airport tourism facilities,” Mr. Joshi stated.
He further highlighted that joint efforts between tourism authorities and hotel entrepreneurs are vital to maintaining high standards and expanding Kathmandu’s visibility among global travelers.

Expert Insights on Increasing Tourist Inflow
During the AGM, Mr. Sajan Shakya, General Secretary of the Hotel Association of Nepal, provided insights on attracting more tourists. He suggested leveraging technology, digital marketing, and online booking platforms to enhance the visibility of local hotels. According to him, offering unique cultural experiences, traditional food festivals, and seamless hospitality services can significantly boost tourist engagement and satisfaction.
“By integrating modern technology with authentic local experiences, hotels can capture both domestic and international travelers’ attention, ensuring longer stays and repeat visits,” Mr. Shakya remarked.
Appreciation for Media Contribution
The AGM also recognized the vital role of media in promoting Kathmandu’s hospitality sector. Tokens of appreciation were provided to journalists who have consistently supported tourism promotion and coverage of local hotel initiatives. This acknowledgment reinforces the association’s belief in strong partnerships between media, tourism stakeholders, and hotel entrepreneurs.
President Highlights Association Achievements
In his closing remarks, Mr. Suresh Baral, President of DHEA, reflected on the achievements of the association over the past year and outlined strategic priorities for the future. He emphasized organizational strengthening, capacity building, and policy advocacy as critical components for sustainable growth.

“Despite limited resources, our collective efforts have led to significant progress in protecting the rights of hotel entrepreneurs, enhancing organizational capacity, and expanding our network. The dedication, unity, and cooperation of our members remain our greatest strength,” Mr. Baral said.
He further stressed that upcoming initiatives will focus on digital promotion of member hotels, practical training programs, collaboration with tourism authorities, and policy advocacy to create a more enabling environment for hotel entrepreneurs.
Looking ahead, DHEA plans to implement comprehensive programs for member hotels, including integration into national and international online travel agencies (OTAs), technical support for digital marketing, photo shoots, content development, and training sessions. Emphasis will also be placed on legal and administrative strengthening of all units, membership expansion campaigns, leadership development, and recognition of exemplary units and entrepreneurs.
Through strategic partnerships with banks, insurance providers, suppliers, and government agencies, DHEA aims to expand financial access, reduce operational costs, and enhance overall competitiveness of Kathmandu’s hotel sector.
The AGM concluded with a reaffirmation of the association’s commitment to collective progress, tourism promotion, and sustainable development of Kathmandu’s hospitality industry.
