The farewell program was led by Lakpa Sherpa, Vice President of the Nepal National Mountain Guide Association, alongside General Secretary Pimba Tenjing Bhote.

Representatives from the Nepal Mountaineering Association, including General Secretary Rajendra Lama, were also present to extend their encouragement and support to the trainees embarking on this demanding professional journey.

The location provides an ideal natural classroom for evaluating guiding competencies such as rope management, glacier travel, rescue techniques, expedition planning, and risk mitigation.

The final diploma course represents the culmination of rigorous academic, technical, and field-based preparation aligned with IFMGA standards. According to organizers, the small cohort size ensures personalized supervision and thorough evaluation of each candidate’s technical and leadership abilities.

Joint Effort to Raise Professional Standards

The IFMGA-accredited diploma program is being jointly conducted by NNMGA and NMA in collaboration with Nepal Mountain Academy as a strategic partner. The course operates under the international framework of IFMGA/UIAGM/IVBV, ensuring that graduates meet globally recognized certification requirements.

This collaboration reflects Nepal’s continued commitment to professionalizing its guiding sector and enhancing safety standards in high-altitude tourism, an essential component of the country’s mountaineering and adventure travel industry.

Industry experts note that internationally certified guides not only improve expedition safety but also strengthen Nepal’s competitiveness in the global adventure tourism market, where demand for qualified professionals continues to grow.

Strengthening Nepal’s Legacy in Mountaineering

Nepal, home to eight of the world’s fourteen 8,000-meter peaks, has long been synonymous with mountaineering excellence. Programs such as the MGCC are designed to ensure that this legacy is supported by world-class training, ethical guiding practices, and internationally validated qualifications.

By aligning national training systems with IFMGA standards, Nepal aims to create sustainable career pathways for local guides while reinforcing its image as a safe, professional, and responsible destination for mountaineering expeditions.

Best Wishes for Future Mountain Professionals

Organizing institutions have extended their best wishes to all participants for the successful completion of the course and for promising careers ahead as certified international guides.
