Around 300 monks from Thailand have embarked on a spiritual peace walk from Lumbini in Rupandehi district to Ramagram Stupa in Nawalparasi West district, aiming to promote peace, compassion, and the teachings of Lord Buddha.
‘Charik Thudong Bhuddhabhumi’ Peace Walk Begins
The peace walk, named ‘Charik Thudong Bhuddhabhumi’, commenced from the Thai Monastery in Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha. The monks plan to reach Ramagram after a two-day and one-night journey, pausing overnight at Shanti Buddhist Monastery in Bhairahawa before continuing to the historic stupa.

Recognized by the Lumbini Development Trust, Ramagram Stupa is believed to house one of the eight portions of Lord Buddha’s relics, making it a significant site of reverence for Buddhists worldwide.
Spiritual Purpose and Leadership
Acharya Charan Anangkano, leader of the group, said it was a great honor to begin the journey from Lumbini. He emphasized that the peace walk seeks to purify the mind and soul, practice Buddhist teachings, and spread compassion and kindness in society.
“We have come here to follow in the footsteps of the Buddha and practice the Dharma,” Acharya Charan said, expressing gratitude to Nepali citizens for preserving sacred sites like Lumbini. The group of monks has traveled from Uthayan Tham Dong Yang in Sisaket province, Thailand, and includes participants from Laos, Malaysia, and Vietnam, reflecting the international nature of this spiritual endeavor.

Practicing Peace and Self-Discipline
Bhante Vichaya, one of the participating monks, explained that the walk is intended as a practice of peace and self-discipline. He noted, “Such a journey helps people realize the importance of patience and self-control in life.”
Journey Beyond Ramagram
Upon reaching Ramagram Stupa, the group will continue their pilgrimage to India, visiting sacred Buddhist sites such as Kushinagar, Vaishali, and Bodh Gaya, all intimately connected to the life of Lord Buddha.
Volunteer Akananlay, accompanying the monks, mentioned that similar pilgrimages are organized annually under the leadership of Acharya Charan Anangkano, highlighting the ongoing commitment to spreading Buddhist teachings across South and Southeast Asia.

Promoting Cultural and Spiritual Bonds
The event not only emphasizes spiritual discipline and mindfulness but also strengthens cultural ties between Nepal and Southeast Asian countries, while showcasing the significance of Lumbini as a global center of Buddhist heritage.
By engaging in this peaceful and disciplined journey, the monks aim to inspire devotees and laypersons alike to embrace compassion, patience, and mindfulness, reinforcing Lord Buddha’s enduring message of harmony and ethical living.
