108 Cyclists to Ride from Kathmandu to Lumbini in ‘Cycle for Peace’

A total of 108 cyclists are set to participate in a multi-day “Cycle for Peace” rally from Kathmandu to Lumbini, aiming to spread a global message of compassion, non-violence, and unity amid rising conflicts worldwide.

The initiative, organized by the Universal Peace Sanctuary in Lumbini, was officially announced during a press conference held on Thursday. The four-day cycling journey will begin in Kathmandu and conclude in Lumbini with 108 Cyclists, the birthplace of Gautam Buddha, coinciding with the auspicious occasion of Buddha Purnima on May 1.

Four-Day Journey Promoting Peace and Harmony

According to organizers, the rally will be inaugurated in Kathmandu on April 28 and will travel through key towns including Hetauda, Narayanghat, Kawasoti, Daunne, and Bhairahawa before reaching Lumbini.

Cyclists from diverse age groups, ranging from youth to senior citizens, are expected to participate, reflecting a broad commitment to promoting peace and social harmony. The event is designed not only as a physical journey but also as a symbolic rally advocating for unity and mutual respect in a world increasingly affected by violence and intolerance. Organizers emphasized that the cyclists comes at a time when global conflicts and divisions are intensifying, making the message of peace more urgent than ever.

Lumbini Events to Mark Buddha Purnima with 108 Cyclists

Upon reaching Lumbini, thousands of participants and visitors are expected to gather at the sacred Mayadevi Temple. Activities on May 1 will include meditation under the Bodhi tree, special prayers for world peace, and the lighting of oil lamps.

A meditation program is also scheduled for May 2, alongside the launch of the Nepali translation of The Path to Perfect Freedom, authored by Shyalpa Rinpoche. Rinpoche has been a global advocate for peace, representing Buddhist teachings at international platforms such as the United Nations and the World Economic Forum.

Promoting Eco-Friendly Lifestyle and Unity

Organizers highlighted that the rally also promotes environmental awareness by encouraging cycling as a sustainable and eco-friendly mode of transport. Participants will raise slogans such as “Peace is our right” and “End violence,” aiming to inspire communities along the route.

“This bicycle rally is not just a journey, but a symbol of peace, tolerance, and mutual respect,” said Shyalpa Rinpoche. The event has received support from the Nepal Tourism Board, with CEO Deepak Raj Joshi confirming institutional backing.
