Sukilumba Airport has been closed for the past two months due to adverse weather conditions. The airport has not seen any flights since Jestha 13, when a Nepal Airlines aircraft last took off. On Jestha 17, a flight from Kathmandu to Ilām was unable to land due to poor weather and had to return to Kathmandu. Since then, no flights have been operating, as confirmed by Ilām Station In-Charge Dinesh Sundas.
According to Sundas, flights will not resume until there is an improvement in the weather conditions. Nepal Airlines has been operating flights between Ilām and Kathmandu since Magh 1, 2079, with services twice a week on Sundays and Thursdays. Before Nepal Airlines, flights were provided by Sita Airlines, Sundas added. Sukilumba Airport is located in Ilām Municipality-9.
The closure of the airport has caused significant inconvenience for travelers, who are currently using the Bhadrapur Airport in Jhapa for their air travel needs. Regular flights will resume once the weather improves, according to Sundas.
