Mercure Kathmandu Sukedhara Heights Becomes Nepal’s First Green Key-Certified Hotel

Mercure Kathmandu Sukedhara Heights has received the Green Key certification, an internationally recognised eco-label for sustainable tourism, marking a significant milestone for Nepal’s hospitality industry. The certification recognises the hotel’s commitment to responsible hospitality, environmental management and sustainable operating practices.

Certification Recognises Environmental Sustainability

Green Key is an international eco-label operated by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). It recognises hotels and other tourism establishments that meet established criteria for environmental responsibility and sustainable operations. Mercure Kathmandu Sukedhara Heights received the certification following an independent assessment covering 13 areas of sustainability, including energy and water efficiency, waste reduction, responsible food sourcing, staff training and community engagement.

With this achievement, the hotel joins a global network of Green Key-certified establishments operating in more than 80 countries. The certification provides a practical framework for incorporating international sustainability standards into daily hotel operations while addressing local environmental priorities in Kathmandu. As the certification requires annual renewal, the hotel will continue to evaluate its performance and improve its sustainability practices.
