In a bid to raise awareness about the conservation of red pandas, a ‘Red Panda Marathon’ is set to be organized in Taplejung on Ashoj 5. The event is being spearheaded by the Himalayan Conservation Forum, which has been actively involved in red panda conservation efforts. The marathon is planned to coincide with Red Panda Day, celebrated annually on September 21.
Ramesh Rai, Program Coordinator of the Himalayan Conservation Forum, announced that the marathon would be held in collaboration with the Red Panda Network and Fungling Municipality. The event will take place in the Pathibhara region, which is recognized as a primary habitat for red pandas. According to Rai, preparations for the marathon have already begun.
This year, the Red Panda Network has allocated NPR 1 million for the marathon, while Fungling Municipality has earmarked NPR 500,000 to support the event. The marathon is part of a broader campaign to educate locals about the importance of conserving the natural habitats of red pandas.
