Tribhuvan International Airport Introduces Live Baggage Feed for Greater Transparency and Passenger Convenience

Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) has introduced a live visual feed of the baggage drop area in the baggage claim section of the arrival hall, aiming to make baggage handling more transparent, organised and passenger-friendly. The new facility allows passengers arriving in Nepal on international flights to monitor the movement of their baggage after it is unloaded from the aircraft and brought towards the baggage belts. The initiative is expected to provide passengers with real-time information about the status of their luggage and help them estimate the time required to collect their baggage.

Live Feed Brings Greater Transparency to Baggage Handling

Previously, passengers waiting in the baggage claim area had limited information about when luggage unloaded from their aircraft would reach the baggage belts. The lack of real-time information often left passengers uncertain about the progress of baggage handling and how long they would have to wait.

With the new live-feed system, activities taking place in the baggage drop area can now be viewed directly from the arrival hall. Passengers can therefore observe the baggage handling process while waiting for their luggage to arrive at the designated belt. The system is expected to make the waiting experience more convenient by reducing uncertainty and providing passengers with clearer information about the status of baggage handling.

Initiative Focuses on Passenger Experience

The facility has been introduced as part of an initiative led by Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Khadak Raj Paudel ‘Ganes’, with a focus on improving services at Tribhuvan International Airport through technology and passenger-oriented measures.

The initiative comes amid efforts to improve the overall service experience at Nepal’s primary international gateway. Greater visibility into baggage handling is expected to contribute to improved communication between airport operations and passengers while making the baggage collection process more systematic.

Technology to Support Airport Service Improvements

Minister Paudel has recently placed emphasis on improving airport services, increasing the use of technology and enhancing passenger convenience. The introduction of the live baggage feed is being viewed as part of broader efforts to improve service quality, operational transparency and the use of modern technology at TIA.

The airport authorities are expected to continue adopting technology-based solutions to make passenger services more efficient and transparent. Such measures could also contribute to improving the overall arrival experience for international travellers and bringing airport services closer to international standards.
