Nepal’s domestic flights have been significantly affected due to adverse weather conditions, causing disruptions in air travel across the country. According to Tribhuvan International Airport, poor weather and low visibility have particularly impacted flights to Pokhara and Bharatpur.
Jagan Nath Niraula, the airport’s General Manager, confirmed that while domestic flights are generally disrupted, international flights are operating as usual. “The poor weather and reduced visibility have made it difficult to operate flights to Pokhara and Bharatpur,” Niraula said. “Flights to other hilly regions have also been somewhat affected.”
Deeprendra Kumar Karn, the spokesperson for Buddha Air, reported that no flights have taken off from Pokhara and Bharatpur as of now. He noted that flights are expected to resume once visibility improves following a decrease in rainfall.
The Meteorological Forecasting Division, under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, indicated that the monsoon trough is currently positioned slightly north of the usual location, leading to partial to generally cloudy conditions across the country.
Various provinces are experiencing light to moderate rainfall, with some areas in Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, as well as a few places in other provinces, facing the possibility of heavy rain. As the weather conditions continue to evolve, travelers are advised to check flight statuses before heading to the airport.
