Nepal-Myanmar Chamber of Commerce Hosts Welcome Event for Newly Appointed Myanmar Ambassador

The Nepal-Myanmar Chamber of Commerce organized a welcome event to extend best wishes for the successful tenure of newly appointed Myanmar Ambassador to Nepal, Myo Myint Maung. The event took place on Monday at the Myanmar Embassy in Kathmandu.

During the meeting, Chamber President Shiv Kumar Agrawal expressed confidence that bilateral relations would strengthen further during Ambassador Myo Myint Maung’s tenure. Highlighting the Chamber’s contributions to bilateral trade over the past 13 years, Agrawal noted that establishing direct air connectivity between Nepal and Myanmar could be a significant milestone under the new ambassador’s leadership.

Agrawal emphasized the commercial viability of a direct flight route from Myanmar to Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha, given that 80% of Myanmar’s population practices Buddhism. He also pointed out that such a service would benefit the large Nepali-speaking community in Myanmar.

He expressed optimism that the payment issues hindering trade between Nepal and Myanmar could be resolved during the ambassador’s tenure. Agrawal further stressed the need to promote Nepalese exports such as software, handicrafts, high-value agricultural products, tea, and coffee.

Looking ahead, Agrawal requested the ambassador to facilitate the visit of a Nepalese delegation to Myanmar scheduled for the upcoming Baishakh (April/May).

In response, Ambassador Myo Myint Maung acknowledged the strong ties between Myanmar and Nepal and expressed his commitment to deepening these relations. He pledged to address bilateral trade issues and support the expansion of business opportunities.

The ambassador also highlighted the potential for increasing the number of Myanmar tourists to Nepal and shared plans to establish sustainable direct air services. He emphasized the need for tourism-related package programs and suggested that both countries could promote tourism by showcasing documentaries and encouraging mutual visits.

Ambassador Myo Myint Maung also committed to fostering a brotherly relationship between the Myanmar Chamber of Commerce and the Nepal-Myanmar Chamber of Commerce.

The meeting was attended by Chamber President Agrawal, Vice President Ratanlal Kedia, Treasurer Laxmi Prasad Subedi, and Executive Committee members Mohanbir Thapa, Rishiraj More, Nirmal Poudel, and Raj Lama.
