In an exciting development for Kathmandu’s hospitality sector, Dr. Dhananjay Regmi, the former CEO of the Nepal Tourism Board and a well-known figure in the tourism industry, has launched a four-star hotel in Maharajgunj. The new establishment, named Mandala Norling Hotel, is located near the Qatar Visa Center and is the result of a nearly six-year-long construction process. The hotel is scheduled for its official opening next month.
Dr. Regmi, along with four other partners, spearheaded this venture, aiming to provide a premium yet accessible accommodation option for both domestic and international visitors. The hotel is strategically positioned just 3.5 kilometers from Tribhuvan International Airport, ensuring easy access for travelers. According to Dr. Regmi, the location along the Ring Road avoids major traffic congestion, enhancing convenience for guests.
The Mandala Norling Hotel covers eight ropanis of land and comprises three distinct buildings. These include a dedicated spa facility, a hotel building with rooms, and a separate structure designed for hosting parties and banquets. Managed by the Indian company Lords Prime, the hotel is equipped with top-tier amenities, although it will initially operate without an official star rating. However, Dr. Regmi has plans to upgrade the hotel to a five-star status within the next two to two and a half years.
The hotel currently offers 86 rooms in categories such as super deluxe, deluxe, and suites, with future plans to expand by adding 40 more rooms. The Mandala Norling Hotel is particularly tailored to cater to Chinese and Indian tourists, providing a balance between affordability and luxury.
A strong focus on wellness is evident, with 14 spa rooms and a variety of dining options, including Chinese, Indian, Nepali, and multi-cuisine restaurants. The hotel also features four conference halls with a capacity of over 50 people each, along with three larger halls under construction.
On the rooftop, guests can enjoy a swimming pool with a 360-degree view of the surroundings, and the hotel offers two restaurants and a bar. The parking facilities are extensive, with space for approximately 300 vehicles. Additionally, a party palace is located on the ground floor, making the hotel a versatile venue for various events.
Mandala Norling Hotel has been built with an investment of around 400 million NPR, and it plans to offer rooms at an average rate of $60 per night. Dr. Regmi noted the challenges faced by tour operators in selling rooms at higher rates, stating that the hotel’s pricing strategy is designed to appeal to a broader market while maintaining quality standards. The hotel currently provides employment to 80 people, with plans to expand as the facility upgrades and grows in the coming years.
