On Friday, at the Hotelier Summit 2024 organized by Capital Nepal, Nepali Congress MP and industrialist Binod Chaudhary emphasized the transformative potential of the tourism sector for Nepal’s economy. Chaudhary argued that with proper development, tourism could bring about a fundamental change in Nepal’s economic landscape.
Chaudhary highlighted the importance of developing hotel infrastructure that reflects Nepali uniqueness, noting that in the past, tourists from various countries specifically chose Nepal and its iconic hotels like Solti Hotel. “Tourism and the hotel industry have the power to transform Nepal’s entire economy. If we can establish hotels that showcase Nepali authenticity, we can attract millions of tourists to Nepal,” Chaudhary stated.
He also raised concerns about recurring safety issues in Nepali aviation and stressed that no effort should be spared in improving it. According to Chaudhary, enhancing the tourism industry can significantly impact Nepal’s economy, provided there is a focus on developing and expanding hotel and other infrastructure. “Nepal has the potential to attract millions of tourists and generate billions in revenue. We have the resources and manpower to achieve this,” he added.
Chaudhary mentioned that trekking is one of the most popular activities in Nepal and pointed out that geopolitical issues have hindered the operations of international airports like Pokhara and Gautam Buddha. He also acknowledged the role of private-sector airlines in providing better services compared to government-owned ones, emphasizing that the tourism sector plays a crucial role in job creation.
“Tourism is vital for Nepal. Our country is a suitable destination for tourists from India, China, and other countries,” Chaudhary concluded.
