India’s famous Udaan Hotels & Resorts Group has taken over the management of the five-star Mechi Crown Hotel, located in Jhapa, Nepal. The hotel officially announced this management change on Wednesday, confirming that Udaan Group had assumed control as of July 16, though the formal announcement came a month later.
Previously, Udaan Group has successfully built and operated hotels in popular Indian destinations such as Darjeeling, Gangtok, Lachung in Sikkim, Siliguri, and Kalimpong. The group has signed a long-term lease agreement for 12 years with Mechi Crown, as mentioned on the hotel’s official Facebook page. According to the agreement, the revenue from the hotel will be shared with the original owners of Mechi Crown.
Mechi Crown, which has quickly become a popular destination for weddings and casino events, expanded its capacity a year ago by investing an additional NPR 600 million to add 100 rooms, bringing the total number of rooms to 205. Despite the challenges faced by the hotel industry due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Mechi Crown has continued to thrive. It is home to ‘Vegas,’ the largest casino in Nepal, which attracts a large number of Indian visitors due to its affiliation with a casino network in Goa, India.
The hotel is located just 12 kilometers from India’s Bagdogra International Airport, making it easily accessible to Indian and Bangladeshi tourists. Additionally, Mechi Crown’s proximity to the eastern border town of Kakarbhitta makes it a convenient destination for tourists from India, Bangladesh, and Bhutan.
The hotel offers five suite rooms, 10 villas, 20 club rooms, and 70 deluxe rooms. It also features two restaurants, a banquet hall, and a helipad. Situated on eight bighas of land, the hotel complex has planted over 1,000 trees, contributing to a green and eco-friendly environment. Other facilities include a swimming pool, spa center, steam bath, gym hall, tennis court, and beauty parlor, making it a comprehensive luxury destination.
Mechi Crown’s strategic location and range of amenities continue to attract both domestic and international visitors, positioning it as a premier hospitality destination in eastern Nepal.
