The renowned religious site of Pathibhara (Mukumalung) in Taplejung has seen an impressive collection of over NPR 1.8 million in donations over the past two months. According to the Pathibhara Area Development Committee, the total donations collected in July and August amounted to NPR 1,826,555. This includes NPR 691,000 collected in July and NPR 1,135,555 in August.
The committee reported that the number of devotees visiting the Pathibhara Temple increased significantly, with 1,955 visitors in July and 9,939 in August. With the approach of the Dashain and Tihar festivals, which mark the beginning of the peak season for Pathibhara visits, the number of pilgrims is expected to rise further.
Pathibhara Temple is considered one of Nepal’s most significant religious pilgrimage sites, situated at an altitude of approximately 3,794 meters above sea level. It holds immense religious, cultural, and historical importance, attracting thousands of devotees from various parts of Nepal as well as India. The temple is dedicated to the goddess Pathibhara, who is worshipped as a powerful deity. It is especially common for women to pray here for children, health recovery, and fulfillment of wishes, with some devotees offering animal sacrifices as part of their rituals.
As Dashain and Tihar approach, the influx of pilgrims has already begun. During Dashain, many believe in performing Durga Puja to seek blessings from the goddess. The natural beauty surrounding the Pathibhara region, featuring stunning mountain views and lush forests, also makes it an attractive destination for tourists.
The committee anticipates an even larger number of devotees during this year’s Dashain and Tihar celebrations and is making necessary preparations. Priorities include ensuring adequate supplies of water, accommodation, and other facilities to enhance the experience for the visiting pilgrims.
