A shelter has been constructed at the tourist destination Mundra Chadaune Danda in Annapurna Rural Municipality-2, Myagdi. To promote tourism development at Mundra Chadaune Danda, the Annapurna Rural Municipality has built a guest shelter for tourists to stay and dine. Ward Chairman Om Prakash Fagami of Annapurna-2 stated that the shelter was constructed with a grant of nine lakh rupees allocated by the rural municipality in the current fiscal year, along with a one lakh rupees contribution from local labor.
“The shelter, built near Chuchekharka close to Mundra Chadaune Danda, can accommodate 30 people at once,” said Fagami. “The cottage, constructed entirely of wood and roofed with tin, has a sloped roof to prevent damage from wind and snow during winter.”
With the shelter in place, tourists no longer have to endure the discomfort of spending nights in tents, caves, or under trees. They now have a safe and comfortable place to stay. The chairman of the Mundra Chadaune Tourism Area Infrastructure Construction Consumer Committee, Raju Fagami, mentioned that due to the remote location, workers had to stay in the jungle for three months to complete the construction of the shelter.
From Mundra Chadaune Danda, situated at an altitude of 3,204 meters above sea level, one can observe captivating views of the mountain ranges, hilly geography, sunrise, and the enchanting scenery of the forest. The site offers stunning views of more than a dozen mountain ranges, including Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Annapurna, Gurja, Machapuchare, and Manaslu, along with the meandering Kali Gandaki River and rhododendron forests.
Mundra Chadaune Danda can be reached after a five-hour walk from Mandredhunga. This route also leads to Dhaulagiri Icefall and Base Camp. Deputy Chairperson of Annapurna Rural Municipality, Diva Tilija Pun, mentioned that efforts are being made to develop Mundra Chadaune Danda as a new destination, as traditional trails and tourist stays have shortened due to road access.
Previously, the rural municipality had constructed a 2.5-kilometer trail from Mandredhunga to Bhumethan and then to Mundra Chadaune Danda. The construction of stone steps in steep and narrow places and digging the trail in flat areas has mitigated the risk of accidents and tourists getting lost.
Chief Administrative Officer Amrit Subedi of Annapurna Rural Municipality stated that next year’s plan includes constructing drinking water facilities, and toilets, and placing tourism information boards along the trail.
