Tourist Influx in Manang District Peaks as Trekking Season Begins

The Manang district has experienced a significant surge in both domestic and foreign tourists since mid-September, marking a vibrant start to the trekking season. Last Tuesday, a record 286 tourists entered the district, the highest single-day figure to date. The following day saw an additional 140 visitors, according to Bhupendra Gurung from the Tourism Information Centre in Dharapani.

The Nepali month of Asoj is known for its favorable trekking conditions, attracting outdoor enthusiasts to explore the stunning landscapes of Nepal. Data from the Tourist Information Centre indicates that a total of 2,765 tourists from 74 different countries visited Manang between August 17 and September 16. Among these, the largest group came from Israel, totaling 597, followed closely by 327 Chinese tourists.

Binod Gurung, Chairperson of the Tourism Entrepreneur Committee in Manang, emphasized the timing, stating, “Asoj is the appropriate month for trekking, which has led to an increase in tourist arrivals.” Usha Lama, a tourism entrepreneur from Chame rural municipality-5, echoed this sentiment, noting that favorable weather conditions have further enhanced the flow of visitors. Many tourists are currently making their way to popular destinations such as Tilicho Lake.

In light of the growing tourist numbers, the Annapurna Area Conservation Office has issued a reminder for travelers to prepare for the variable weather conditions typical of the Himalayan region. Visitors are encouraged to plan their trips carefully to ensure safety and enjoyment during their adventures in Manang.
