Susta Rural Municipality in Western Nawalparasi is set to create a lake spanning approximately 20 bighas to enhance both internal and external tourism. Humlal Bhusal, the chief administrative officer of Susta Municipality, announced that the initiative aims to boost local tourism.
The lake will be constructed between wards 3 and 4, where the Ghola area will undergo cleaning and maintenance. Bhusal indicated that the municipality has already allocated NPR 9 million for the project. Surrounding the lake, plans include the development of pathways, gardens, and various tourist facilities to enhance the natural beauty of the area.
Tek Narayan Upadhyaya, the chairperson of the municipality, emphasized the importance of identifying potential tourist sites within the region to advance tourism development policies. He noted that fish farming will also be integrated into the lake’s ecosystem. “Historically, the Ghola area lacked significance, but with the creation of the lake, we expect significant tourism development,” Upadhyay stated.
The construction of the lake is anticipated to serve as a new source of revenue for the municipality. As a first step, the municipality has begun clearing the bushes and debris within the Ghola area to prepare for the lake’s establishment.
Susta Rural Municipality is actively working to identify various sites for tourism development, aiming to manage income sources through these initiatives. The municipality’s commitment to promoting tourism reflects a broader strategy to enhance the local economy and improve the quality of life for its residents.
