ADB to Support ‘Lake to Lake Cycle Track’ Project in Pokhara

The Asian Development Bank (ADB), a key development partner of Nepal, has pledged support for the construction of a ‘Lake to Lake Cycle Track’ in Pokhara. This project, initiated by the Pokhara Metropolitan City, aims to link the seven lakes in the region, enhancing the city’s tourism appeal and promoting eco-friendly travel.

The concept of the ‘Lake to Lake Cycle Track’ is currently under discussion as part of the city’s sustainable tourism initiatives, according to Pokhara Mayor Dhan Raj Acharya. He stated that a master plan is being developed to guide the project, which will be funded by an investment of NPR 1 billion from ADB.

The proposed cycle track will span 85 kilometers, connecting all major lakes in the Pokhara area. Mayor Acharya expressed confidence in the project’s potential, noting that “the track will serve as a major tourism infrastructure for Pokhara, attracting cycling enthusiasts worldwide. Tourists will enjoy a unique experience cycling along the lakes with scenic views of the Himalayas, marking a milestone in Pokhara’s tourism promotion.”

In addition to enhancing tourism, the cycle track is expected to support environmental conservation and public health. “Pokhara is naturally clean, beautiful, and appealing, and this cycle track will stand as a sustainable infrastructure dedicated to environmental preservation and public well-being,” added Mayor Acharya.

The city plans to build an 85-kilometer route composed of an ‘inner’ and ‘outer’ circuit to connect the lakes. These two primary routes will be supplemented by various connector paths, linking the lakes both directly and indirectly to create a comprehensive cycling network across the region.
