Air Serbia has reached a significant milestone in its long-haul operations, carrying one million passengers since launching its intercontinental services in 2016. The achievement highlights the airline’s steady expansion and growing role in connecting Serbia with major global destinations.
Since introducing its first long-haul flights, Air Serbia has developed direct routes linking Belgrade with key international hubs, including New York, Chicago, Guangzhou, and Shanghai. These connections have strengthened Belgrade’s position as an important transit point between Europe, North America, and China.

Expansion Strengthens Global Connectivity
The airline’s long-haul growth strategy has significantly enhanced Serbia’s global air connectivity, enabling easier travel for both business and diaspora communities. Belgrade has increasingly emerged as a strategic aviation hub, offering passengers improved access to major global cities.

A major highlight of this expansion has been the restoration of direct flights between Belgrade and Toronto, marking the end of a 34-year hiatus. The resumption is seen as a historic step in reconnecting Serbia with its large diaspora population in Canada and responding to long-standing passenger demand.

CEO Highlights Passenger Trust and Network Growth
Air Serbia CEO Jiří Marek described the milestone as an important moment for the airline, emphasizing the trust placed by passengers over nearly a decade of long-haul operations. He noted that the achievement comes during a period of continued network expansion, with the recent reinstatement of the Belgrade–Toronto route and the upcoming 10th anniversary of the airline’s New York service. Marek highlighted that the Toronto route holds particular significance due to strong diaspora ties and long-standing demand for direct connectivity between the two countries.

Strengthening Strategic International Routes
Air Serbia’s long-haul network development is part of a broader strategy to enhance connectivity with key global markets. Routes to North America and China have played a central role in this expansion, supporting tourism, trade, and cultural exchange. The airline’s continued growth reflects increasing demand for direct intercontinental travel options from the Balkans region, reducing reliance on transit hubs and improving travel efficiency for passengers.
Reaching one million long-haul passengers marks a defining moment in Air Serbia’s development as an international carrier. With expanding routes, renewed transatlantic connections, and strengthened links to Asia, the airline continues to position Belgrade as an important global aviation hub bridging Europe with major world markets.
