APF’s Nim Diki Sherpa Summits Everest, Marking Historic Achievement for Women Climbers

Assistant Sub-Inspector Nim Diki Sherpa of the Armed Police Force (APF) Nepal has successfully summited Mount Everest, becoming one of the first female APF personnel to achieve the historic feat.

According to APF officials, Nim Diki Sherpa reached the summit of the world’s highest peak at 11:55 am on Saturday, May 17. Earlier the same morning, Assistant Head Constable Anita Karki had also successfully climbed Everest at 10:20 am, making the day a landmark moment for women in Nepal’s security forces.

With the successful ascents, Anita Karki and Nim Diki Sherpa became the first female APF personnel to scale Mt. Everest, while also becoming the third and fourth APF employees overall to successfully summit the mountain.

Historic Milestone for Armed Police Force Nepal

The Armed Police Force described the achievement as a proud and historic moment for the organization, highlighting the growing participation and leadership of women within Nepal’s security agencies.

Nim Diki Sherpa, originally from Mabu in Sandakpur Rural Municipality of Ilam district, is also recognized as a national-level fencing athlete. Her success on Everest reflects both her athletic excellence and high-altitude endurance.

Officials stated that the simultaneous success of two female APF climbers on the same day demonstrates the strength, determination, and capability of women serving in the security sector.

Experienced Sherpa Guides Supported Expedition

According to APF sources, experienced climbing guides played key roles in supporting the summit missions. Nim Diki Sherpa was guided by renowned climber Nima Sanghe Sherpa, while Anita Karki’s expedition was supported by Tashi Gyalzen Sherpa. Both climbers safely reached the summit during favorable weather conditions on Everest before beginning their descent to lower camps.

The successful Everest ascents by the two APF women climbers have been widely praised as a symbol of women’s empowerment and determination in Nepal.

The Everest success also adds to Nepal’s ongoing achievements during the Spring 2026 climbing season, which has witnessed several record-breaking expeditions and historic ascents by climbers from Nepal and abroad.
