Bhojpur’s Pouwadungma Rural Municipality-1 is witnessing a surge in domestic tourism, with Arun Danda (Chhintalung) becoming a favorite getaway for visitors. This transformation is attributed to infrastructure development and new facilities constructed by the local government.
Located conveniently close to the district headquarters, Arun Danda has become an attractive destination for tourists seeking to unwind from urban life’s hustle and bustle. According to Kiran Rai, Chairperson of the rural municipality, collaborative efforts between the municipality and the Koshi Province Government have led to the establishment of statues of Buddha, Shiva, and Elambar, along with other essential structures, significantly boosting visitor numbers.
The rural municipality has ambitious plans to develop Arun Danda as a key tourist hub. A detailed project report (DPR) has been prepared to guide infrastructure development. Chairperson Rai expressed optimism that this initiative would play a vital role in driving economic growth in the municipality.
“We are actively working on infrastructure development for Arun Danda,” stated Chairperson Rai. “Our goal is to expand various facilities across approximately 80 ropanis of land. By connecting tourism to sustainable economic growth, we aim to establish this place as a significant source of revenue for the municipality.”
Road expansions, pedestrian trails, and resting areas have already been constructed to improve accessibility, shared Ward Chairperson Rajendra Tamang. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of mountain ranges, sprawling plains, and worship at the local temple.
“This site holds religious significance as well,” noted Ward Chairperson Tamang. “Many visitors come to admire the natural beauty and fulfill religious vows through prayers and offerings at the temple.” He added that while previous daily visitor numbers ranged between 10 and 15, recent developments have increased this to around 25–30 visitors daily.
Nabin Bhattarai, Chief Administrative Officer of the municipality, emphasized the systematic approach to developing Arun Danda with the dual goals of uplifting local livelihoods and promoting tourism. Efforts to publicize the area and study the potential for tea cultivation to attract tourists further underline the municipality’s commitment.
Local resident Lalbahadur Tamang highlighted the increasing number of visitors, particularly during holidays, drawn by the serene environment and local delicacies. Proximity to Bhojpur-Leguwa Middle Hills Highway has also made Arun Danda easily accessible.
“Attractions like Arun Danda have seen a rise in tourists thanks to the municipality’s initiatives,” noted Lalbahadur Tamang. “The site has become a preferred choice for many.”
Situated at an altitude of 2,300 meters above sea level, Arun Danda combines religious and natural allure, establishing itself as a must-visit destination in Bhojpur.
