Over 5,000 International Passengers Use Gautam Buddha International Airport (GBIA) in a Month

Gautam Buddha International Airport (GBIA) in Bhairahawa witnessed a significant movement of international passengers, with approximately 5,000 travelers using its services within a month. According to Pratap Babu Tiwari, the airport’s General Manager, the passenger data spans from November 3 to December 3, 2024 (Kartik 18 to Mangsir 18).

During this period, 2,238 passengers departed from Bhairahawa to international destinations, while 2,533 passengers arrived at the airport. Additionally, 5,467 passengers utilized Bhairahawa as a transit point, primarily due to airlines routing Kathmandu-bound travelers through the airport.

The airport recorded a total of 156 flights within the month, comprising 78 departures and 78 arrivals. This highlights the airport’s growing role in facilitating international air travel in Nepal.

Among the airlines operating from GBIA, Jazeera Airways emerged as the top carrier, transporting 3,034 passengers in total. This included 1,792 departures and 1,242 arrivals.

Fly Dubai secured the second position, bringing in 1,113 passengers to Bhairahawa and departing with 19.

Qatar Airways: 93 passengers
Nepal Airlines: 39 passengers
Chartered Flights: 26 passengers

The increase in transit passengers is attributed to airline strategies of rerouting travelers through Bhairahawa to Kathmandu, showcasing the airport’s growing importance in Nepal’s aviation landscape.

With consistent international flight operations and growing passenger numbers, Gautam Buddha International Airport is cementing its position as a pivotal hub for air travel in Nepal, driving connectivity and regional tourism growth.
