Auction of Old Bells at Pathibhara Temple Postponed Amid Public Criticism

The Pathibhara Area Development Committee has postponed the planned sale of old bells collected at the Pathibhara Temple. The decision came after receiving mixed feedback and criticisms from devotees, intellectuals, stakeholders, and the community regarding the auction of bells offered by pilgrims at the sacred Hindu site.

Executive Director of the Committee, Prajin Hangwang, stated in a press release on Friday that the auction process has been halted following widespread suggestions. Despite the current suspension, the committee indicated that the matter would be revisited in the next meeting to decide the next steps.

Earlier, on November 29, the committee issued a public notice announcing the auction of 16,378 kilograms of old bells with a minimum price set at NPR 380 per kilogram. However, the plan faced significant backlash, particularly on social media platforms, prompting the committee to delay the process.

The committee acknowledged the importance of addressing public sentiment and emphasized that future decisions regarding the bells would be made with careful consideration of community feedback.
