The historic birthplace area of Adikavi Bhanu Bhakta Acharya at Chundi Ramgha in Bhanu Municipality is set to be developed as a major literary and cultural tourism destination under an ambitious master plan aimed at promoting Nepal’s literary heritage.
The project envisions transforming Chundi Ramgha, located in Ward No. 4 of the municipality, into a “Saptadham” or multi-dimensional spiritual and literary destination. Authorities say the initiative will not only preserve the legacy of Nepal’s pioneering poet but also contribute significantly to tourism, culture, and the local economy in Chundi Ramgha.

Rs 200 Million Allocated for First Phase
Director General of the Department of Urban Development and Building Construction, Rabindra Bohara, said that the government has already allocated Rs 200 million in the current fiscal year to begin construction of the Bhanu Sahitya Udyan in Chundi Ramgha. According to Bohara, the tender process for the project has already been initiated and evaluation of bids is underway. He informed that the first phase of construction is expected to be completed within the current fiscal year.
“We have also proposed additional budgets for the upcoming fiscal year to construct access roads and the Bhanu House,” Bohara said. The project is being viewed as one of the largest literary infrastructure developments in Nepal dedicated to a national literary figure in Chundi Ramgha.
Traditional Bhanu House to Preserve Poet’s Legacy
Under the master plan, a major structure called the “Bhanu Bhawan” will be constructed on Ramgha Danda, located north of Chundi Ramgha. The building will be designed in a traditional circular “Golghar” architectural style to reflect Nepal’s cultural heritage in Chundi Ramgha.
The proposed building will showcase the complete life journey of Adikavi Bhanu Bhakta Acharya through paintings, visual displays, historical materials, and artistic exhibits related to his life and literary contributions to be built in Chundi Ramgha. Officials say the Bhanu Bhawan will serve as both a museum and cultural learning centre for domestic and international visitors interested in Nepali literature and history.

54-Foot Statue of Bhanu Bhakta Planned
One of the key attractions of the project will be the construction of a massive 54-foot-tall seated statue of Bhanu Bhakta Acharya above the Bhanu Bhawan. The giant monument is expected to become a landmark destination in Gandaki Province and a symbolic representation of Nepal’s literary identity.
In addition, the southern section of the master plan includes the development of statues dedicated to literary figures and language scholars from various linguistic and literary backgrounds. Authorities aim to establish the area as a national centre celebrating Nepal’s diverse literary traditions.
Comprehensive Tourism Infrastructure Planned
The Bhanu Sahitya Udyan project includes several tourism and public infrastructure components designed to attract visitors year-round. According to the master plan, the project will feature:
- Bhanu Literary Village
- Bhanu Settlement Area
- Bhanu Pragya Bhawan
- Botanical Garden
- Picnic and recreational areas
- Parking facilities
- Statue garden and open cultural spaces
These facilities are expected to support literary tourism while also creating spaces for cultural events, research activities, educational visits, and public recreation. Local residents believe the project could significantly transform the economic and tourism landscape of the region.

Locals Hope for Economic and Cultural Transformation
Local resident Sandesh Acharya expressed confidence that the project would bring long-term social, economic, and cultural benefits to the area. “The Bhanu Sahitya Udyan will greatly contribute to the social, economic, cultural, and literary development of this region,” he said.
Residents are hopeful that the project will create employment opportunities, boost local businesses, and increase the number of domestic and international tourists visiting the birthplace of Nepal’s national literary icon. Tourism entrepreneurs in the region also expect the development to strengthen Gandaki Province’s position as a growing cultural tourism destination.
435 Ropanis of Land Acquired
Mayor of Bhanu Municipality, Ananda Raj Tripathi, said that 435 ropanis of land have already been acquired for implementation of the master plan. He emphasized that the municipality aims to develop the area into a destination that reflects the national and international significance of Bhanu Bhakta Acharya.
“Bhanu Bhakta Acharya has a unique identity nationally and internationally. We are moving ahead with the vision of developing this place into a complete literary and cultural destination suited to modern times,” Mayor Tripathi said.

Project Cost Estimated at Rs 1 Billion
Authorities estimate that the entire Bhanu Sahitya Udyan project will require nearly Rs 1 billion to complete. So far, around Rs 18.04 million has already been spent on preliminary works and planning activities.
Officials believe the investment will have long-term benefits by preserving Nepal’s literary heritage while promoting sustainable tourism development. Once completed, the project is expected to emerge as one of Nepal’s most important literary tourism landmarks, attracting scholars, students, writers, and tourists from around the world to the birthplace of the poet who translated the Ramayana into Nepali and helped shape modern Nepali literature.
