Cabinet Approves Fee Waiver for Pokhara and Gautam Buddha International Airports

The government has officially implemented the procedure to operate Pokhara and Gautam Buddha International Airports, a policy adopted in a Cabinet meeting nearly six months ago.

The Cabinet meeting on August 12 not only approved the operational method for these airports but also finalized exemptions aimed at attracting international airlines. A key feature of the policy is the waiver of the Rs 3,000 passenger service fee for international flights departing from Pokhara and Gautam Buddha International Airports. This exemption will remain in effect until September 17, 2026.

Although the procedure was initially slated for implementation within seven days of approval, the decision took almost six months to come into effect.

Binod Prakash Singh, Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, confirmed that the elimination of the service fee for passengers is now in place.

“This decision will effectively reduce airfares for passengers flying internationally from these airports by Rs 3,000,” Singh stated.

The fee waiver is expected to incentivize airlines to increase international connectivity through these airports, boosting tourism and economic activity in the region.
