A tragic incident has claimed the life of a Chinese trekker, who had been missing since March 24 due to an avalanche while descending from the Annapurna Base Camp (ABC). The body of the 28-year-old trekker was found on Saturday morning in Deurali, located within Annapurna Rural Municipality-11, near Chumrung. The body was discovered approximately 20 meters north of the Modi River.
The trekker, identified as Yuan, was reported missing after he lost contact with his trekking group. Following his disappearance, a local team, supported by the Nepal Police, initiated search operations. As the search continued without success, a specialized rescue team was deployed on March 29. The team, led by Inspector Bishwaraj Tripathi, was dispatched from the Kalika Battalion in Pokhara to intensify the efforts to locate Yuan.

On Saturday, the search finally led to a breakthrough, with the body of Yuan found in a prone position, still carrying a rucksack. According to SP Surya Prasad Timilsina of the Kalika Battalion, the discovery was made early in the morning, and the team confirmed the identity of the deceased. Upon being notified of the discovery, Yuan’s family arrived in Nepal to claim the body. The necessary post-mortem will be conducted at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj before the body is handed over to the family for repatriation.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers that trekkers face in the high-altitude regions of Nepal, especially during the winter and early spring seasons when avalanches are more common. The search and rescue efforts were extensive, but the tragic outcome has left the trekking community in mourning.
