Chitwan National Park Sees Over 110,000 Tourists in First Half of 2081/82; Reports Rhino Deaths

In the first six months of the current fiscal year 2081/82, Chitwan National Park attracted a total of 110,345 tourists. Among them, the highest number of visitors were domestic tourists. According to the park’s information officer, Abinash Thapa Magar, since Shrawan (mid-July), 53,103 Nepali nationals, 10,850 tourists from South Asian countries, and 46,392 international tourists from other countries have visited the park. The park has collected a total of NPR 13,01,46,000 in revenue from these tourists.

The park is famous for its rare wildlife, including the one-horned rhinoceros, Bengal tigers, and gharials, as well as various aquatic species and birds, which attract many visitors. Tourists often enjoy activities such as elephant rides, boat trips, jeep safaris, and walking tours within the park and surrounding areas. Chitwan National Park is one of the main attractions in the Chitwan region.

Meanwhile, a female rhinoceros was found dead in the park on Thursday, near the Dhruv Post close to Tapletal. The rhino, approximately 30 years old, is suspected to have died of natural causes. The carcass was found with its horn intact. As of the end of December in the current fiscal year, 13 rhinos have been found dead, including five males, five females, and three whose gender could not be identified. Among these, one rhino was electrocuted, while the others are believed to have died due to natural causes.
