Conservation Efforts Underway for Kirateshwar Stone Garden in Temkemaiyung

The conservation of the tourist site Kirateshwar Stone Garden, located in Ward 9 of Temkemaiyung, has officially commenced. Efforts are being made to enhance physical infrastructure, including the construction of walking paths, to attract more domestic tourists to the area.

As part of the initiative to develop an integrated tourist area encompassing Kirateshwar Stone Garden, Panchadhare Pokhari, and Singhdevi Sthan, a detailed project report (DPR) has been prepared to guide the ongoing work.

According to Ward Chairman Navaraj Mangpahang, the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation has allocated NPR 7.7 million for the development of physical structures. Facilities targeting tourists, including walking paths, Kirati Chulaghars, rest areas, Chautaras, and Sakhewa Pokhari, are being constructed to improve accessibility and the overall visitor experience.

The restoration and conservation of Panchadhare Pokhari, established in 1944, are underway without altering its original features. A cultural building is also being constructed at Singhdevi Sthan to enhance the site’s cultural significance.

Planned efforts aim to develop the Panchadhare area as a unified tourist destination, with a focus on extending the ongoing walking paths to connect with the Mundum walking trail, facilitating smoother access for visitors.

Local resident Adhiraj Rai highlighted the significance of Kirateshwar Stone Garden as a center of faith for the Kirati community and the religious importance of Panchadhare Pokhari. He noted that the development and conservation of these sites would greatly support both domestic and international tourism in the region. The Panchadhare Pokhari, known for its five springs, is believed to fulfill wishes for those who visit, and consuming fish from the pond is said to bring misfortune.

These conservation efforts are expected to enhance the area’s appeal as a tourist destination, drawing more visitors and promoting local culture and heritage.
