Many devotees gathered at the Andhāndhī shrine in Loharpatti Municipality, Mahottari this morning. The site is jam-packed during Kushe Aunshi, also known as Father’s Day in Nepal when people come to pay their respects.
According to resident Birendra Yadav, the Andhāndhī shrine is believed to have connections to the Ramayana era. “Due to this historical link, devotees visit this place on Kushe Aunshi,” Yadav explained. He further mentioned that local folklore suggests that this is the place where Shravan Kumar’s parents passed away after hearing of their son’s death from King Dasharath’s fateful arrow.
In recent times, however, the site has been neglected, with little effort made towards its preservation. Locals express concern that this ancient site is fading into obscurity. They are urging the local, provincial, and federal governments to take steps to protect and promote Andhāndhī as a historical and religious tourist destination.
