A documentary promoting the famous tourist site Sundah in Putha Uttarganga Rural Municipality was premiered recently, aiming to highlight the area’s natural and cultural beauty. The premiere, organized in collaboration with Putha Uttarganga Rural Municipality and the Nepal Tourism Board, brought together policymakers, tourism officials, and local stakeholders to emphasize Sundah’s potential as a premier international tourist destination.
Prachanda Calls for International Promotion

Praising the documentary, Prachanda remarked, “The documentary vividly captures the true beauty of Sundah.” He further urged collaboration between the Ministry of Tourism, Nepal Tourism Board, and local governments to amplify promotional efforts. He emphasized that physical infrastructure development is essential for sustainable tourism, especially in mountainous districts like Rukum East, where Sundah is located. Prachanda also suggested allocating budgetary provisions to continue ongoing plans and promote Rukum East’s tourist destinations.
Local Leaders Highlight Sundah’s Cultural and Natural Value
Dil Kumari Budha, a member of the Lumbini Provincial Assembly, described Sundah as a “piece of paradise fallen from the sky,” urging both domestic and international tourists to visit. She reaffirmed her commitment and that of her office to promoting the site as a key cultural and ecological attraction.

Senior Manager Surya Thapaliya of the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) emphasized Sundah’s unique geographical characteristics, describing it as a “distinctive destination” worthy of branding alongside other tourist spots in Rukum East. He stated, “We need to identify new destinations across the country and develop them as unique tourism hubs.” Thapaliya also acknowledged the important role of local governments in tourism promotion and called for stronger coordination and collaboration between authorities.
Local Government Calls for Infrastructure Support
In his welcome address, Bam Bahadur Budha, Ward Chair of Putha Uttarganga Rural Municipality Ward No. 3, appealed to relevant authorities for support in constructing necessary tourism infrastructure. He noted, “Without roads, bridges, and other basic facilities, sustainable tourism cannot be achieved. The budgets of the municipality and ward are insufficient, so we urge both the provincial and federal governments to allocate funds.”

Municipality Chair Puniraj Gharti, who presided over the event, highlighted the immense tourism potential of Sundah. He stressed that collaboration from all stakeholders is crucial to promote the site effectively. Gharti added that Putha Uttarganga is culturally rich and that integrated efforts are needed to advance tourism development holistically. The 28-minute documentary premiere, he said, represents a significant step toward establishing Sundah in both national and international tourism markets.

Located at an altitude of 4,435 meters above sea level, Sundah is recognized for its natural, biological, and cultural significance. The region is home to rare and endangered species, including the red panda and musk deer, as well as a variety of birds. Valuable medicinal herbs like Yarsagumba thrive in the area, making it an ecologically important destination.
