Duduwa Rural Municipality Unveils Strategic Plans for Tourism Development

Duduwa Rural Municipality has launched a strategic plan to boost its tourism sector, focusing on eco-tourism and the development of its diverse cultural and natural resources. The municipality aims to identify and develop tourism potential across various sites, including temples, mosques, churches, forests, the Rapti River, and the Duduwa Canal, according to Narendra Kumar Chaudhary, Chairperson of Duduwa Rural Municipality.

As part of this initiative, a major highlight is the construction of a 151-foot Shiva statue—”Statue of Shiva”—in Ramnagar Pajha, Ward No. 2. The project has started with the boundary wall construction on a public plot of land. Chairperson Chaudhary shared that this long-awaited project had faced delays due to land constraints near the Rapti River Bridge. The alternative site in Ramnagar Pajha has been identified to ensure the realization of this religious tourism project.

Spanning approximately 27 bighas of land, the project is envisioned as a long-term tourism hub. “This initiative will establish Duduwa as a significant religious and cultural tourism destination,” Chaudhary added.

Durga Prasad Verma, Ward Chairperson of Ward No. 2, emphasized the area’s potential, citing landmarks such as temples, mosques, the suspension bridge, the Duduwa Canal, riverbanks, and border points. “Gradual beautification of these sites will contribute significantly to the tourism sector,” he noted.

The project is part of the municipality’s multi-year plan, with a budget of NPR 10.46 million (excluding VAT). Engineer Surendra Kumar Verma, Head of the Technical Division, stated that the construction contract has been awarded to Deepak Builders of Kohalpur-11, with the boundary wall expected to be completed by the end of the current fiscal year in mid-July.

The strategic initiative marks a milestone in positioning Duduwa as a hub for eco-tourism and religious tourism, creating economic opportunities while preserving its cultural heritage.
