The first-ever International Balloon Festival in Nepal has added vibrancy to Pokhara, enhancing its appeal as a tourist destination. Targeting Christmas and the English New Year 2025, the festival commenced on December 24, 2024, at Fewa Phat along the shores of Fewa Lake and will continue for nine days. Organized by Balloon Nepal Pvt. Ltd., the event aims to promote Pokhara as an international hub for adventure tourism.
The festival’s highlights include sunrise and sunset balloon flights, breathtaking views of Fewa Lake, Annapurna Himalayas, and surrounding villages, night balloon glows, fire shows, cultural performances like Kathmandu’s Kumari Dance, and Vajrayogini rituals. Featuring 17 hot air balloons from 15 countries, including the USA, UK, Spain, France, Japan, and Australia, the event has colored Pokhara’s skies with diverse designs and vibrant hues.
Prominent figures like Rajesh Hamal and Priyanka Karki, serving as brand ambassadors, graced the festival, which has drawn both domestic and international tourists. A free shuttle service from Lakeside to the festival venue has been arranged for attendees. Events such as commercial balloon flights in the morning and cultural shows in the evening have made the festival a lively celebration of adventure and culture.
The festival is supported by Pokhara Metropolitan City, Nepal Tourism Board Gandaki Province, and the Ministry of Industry and Tourism. Local coordination by Fewa Club and sponsorship by BYD have further bolstered the event’s success, aligning with Pokhara’s Visit Year 2025 campaign.
