Gai Khure Waterfall Emerges as a Thrilling Tourist Spot in Besisahar

Nestled in the heart of the hills, the Gai Khure Waterfall is rapidly becoming a must-visit destination for tourists. The cascading water tumbles from over seventy meters, surrounded by lush greenery and a scenic pond at its base. Visitors are drawn to its beauty, often stopping by the roadside or venturing closer to enjoy the cool mist and tranquil surroundings. The waterfall’s picturesque setting has made it a hotspot for photography, selfies, and recreational swimming.

A Natural Attraction by the Roadside

Located in Dalal, Besisahar Municipality–1, along the Dumre–Besisahar Road and near the Marsyangdi River, the waterfall is easily accessible for travelers. Even a brief pause along the highway allows tourists to experience the waterfall’s charm. On a typical day, over 300 visitors come to the site to marvel at the cascading waters, with the number doubling on Fridays, Saturdays, and public holidays, according to local resident Sudip Pant.

Asmita Thapa, a resident of Besisahar Municipality–7, highlighted the convenience of its roadside location. “Since the waterfall is right next to the road, almost no one misses the chance to enjoy it. The cool water and surrounding beauty make for a delightful selfie experience,” she said. Similarly, tourist Shankar Shrestha added that visiting the waterfall with friends to take photos and swim has become a popular pastime.

Need for Improved Facilities

Despite its growing popularity, the site remains largely unorganized. Tourist Ishwor Sedai noted that landslides and natural erosion have begun altering the waterfall’s charm. “The waterfall has potential not only for swimming but also for adventure sports like canyoning. However, better infrastructure and management are needed to maintain its beauty and safety,” he said.

Recognizing the site’s potential, Besisahar Municipality has begun taking steps to enhance the area. Mayor Guman Singh Aryal stated, “We have allocated NPR 9 lakh to develop the waterfall site. Our plans include creating a proper pond at the base, ensuring continuous water flow from the Marsyangdi River, and building parking and recreational areas.”

Plans for Adventure Tourism

The municipality’s vision extends beyond simple sightseeing. Proposals are underway to introduce canyoning and rafting activities, tapping into the waterfall’s steep terrain and flowing water. As the entrance to the Annapurna Circuit passes through Besisahar, officials hope the improved site will attract both domestic and international tourists traveling the popular trekking route.

Currently, the Gai Khure Waterfall flows seasonally from Ashadh to Ashwin (June to October). Mayor Aryal emphasized efforts to ensure a year-round water flow to maintain the waterfall’s attractiveness throughout all twelve months. Such a move would significantly boost tourism, offering both locals and travelers a continuous recreational experience.

Economic and Community Impact

The waterfall is not only a natural attraction but also a potential driver for local economic growth. The influx of tourists benefits nearby shops, eateries, and transport providers, while also encouraging investment in adventure tourism. Improved facilities and organized activities could transform Gai Khure into one of Lamjung’s premier tourist destinations.

Local leaders are optimistic that the combination of natural beauty and infrastructural improvements will make the waterfall a symbol of sustainable tourism in the region. With proper planning, they aim to ensure safety, environmental preservation, and community participation in the site’s development.

Looking Ahead

As development plans unfold, the Gai Khure Waterfall is set to become a benchmark for natural tourism in Besisahar. From scenic beauty and leisurely swimming to adventurous canyoning and rafting, the site promises a comprehensive tourist experience. By balancing infrastructure, safety, and environmental care, the municipality aims to maintain the waterfall’s charm while making it accessible and enjoyable for all.

For now, the cascading waters continue to enchant visitors, offering a refreshing retreat in the hills. With ongoing improvements, Gai Khure Waterfall is poised to become not only a local favorite but also a destination of national and international interest.
