Gandaki Province Chief Minister Emphasizes Collective Efforts for Regular International Flights from Pokhara Airport

Gandaki Province Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey has stressed the need for collective efforts from both the federal and provincial governments to initiate regular international flights from Pokhara International Airport. He made this statement while inaugurating the ‘Destination Gandaki’ event organized by Kantipur Media Group in Pokhara yesterday.

Chief Minister Pandey noted that it is not enough for the provincial government alone to push for regular international flights. He emphasized that a coordinated effort between the federal and provincial governments is crucial. “Tourism promotion is a top priority for our government.

Due to geographical challenges, providing infrastructure like roads everywhere is difficult, and weather management often affects timely travel. Ensuring the regular operation of the international airport is a significant challenge, and we are working in close coordination with both the federal and provincial governments to make international connectivity easier for tourists,” he said.

Pandey highlighted that Pokhara, along with the entire Gandaki Province, holds immense tourism potential. Following the declaration of Pokhara as a tourist capital, there has been a noticeable boost in the province’s tourism sector. He mentioned that the provincial government is continuously working on identifying and enhancing the tourism potential in the region.

“Pokhara and Gandaki Province attract a significant number of foreign tourists. We plan to further market this on both national and international levels, aiming to attract more tourists from around the world,” Pandey said. He emphasized that revenue from tourism is more critical than just the number of tourists.

Pandey also discussed efforts to promote religious tourism in Gandaki Province. He mentioned key pilgrimage sites such as Muktinath, Manakamana, and Triveni Dham and stated that the provincial government is actively working to promote these sites and identify new destinations.

The event featured discussions among experts on topics such as political and tourism policies, adventure tourism, dream destinations, education, healthcare, employment, and federalism, aiming to foster a productive dialogue for the development of Gandaki Province.

Through such initiatives, the provincial government hopes to enhance tourism, promote religious sites, and improve overall connectivity, paving the way for a sustainable and vibrant tourism industry in the region.
