The northern belt of Gorkha district has witnessed continuous snowfall since last night, affecting normal life and travel across several high-altitude villages in the Chumnumbri Rural Municipality.
Continuous Snowfall Disrupts Daily Activities
According to local resident Pasang Funjo Lama of Chumnumbri Rural Municipality–7, light rain followed by snowfall began last night and continued into the morning. “The area received light rainfall and snowfall last night. Snowfall is still taking place. The people are inside their houses, and the yaks are also kept in the sheds,” Lama said, describing the situation.

The persistent snowfall has disrupted daily life, forcing residents to remain indoors and halting regular outdoor activities. The sudden drop in temperature has also made it difficult for locals to manage livestock and supplies in the remote Himalayan villages.
Villages Covered in Thick Snow
Villages situated above 3,000 meters, including Nile, Chhule, Pangdun, Lar, Phurpe, Lamagaun, Burji, Jong, and Chhekam, are blanketed with snow. Likewise, Samagaun, Syala, and Lho villages have also been covered in white, creating scenic but challenging conditions for both residents and travelers.
Local authorities have reported that transportation and movement between villages have become difficult due to snow accumulation on walking trails and roads. Communication has also been affected in certain remote settlements.
Tourism Activities Affected in Manaslu Region
The snowfall has also impacted tourism activities in the popular Manaslu region. Trekkers heading towards Larke Pass, one of the highlights of the Manaslu Circuit Trek, have been forced to halt their journey midway due to worsening weather conditions.
Tourism operators in the area said that several groups of trekkers have decided to wait in lower-altitude villages until conditions improve. The Manaslu region, known for its scenic beauty and cultural diversity, draws hundreds of domestic and international trekkers each autumn season, and the early snowfall has disrupted this year’s flow.
Authorities Urge Caution for Trekkers and Locals
Local authorities have urged both residents and visitors to exercise caution while traveling in the high-altitude areas of Gorkha. The Chumnumbri Rural Municipality lies close to the Nepal-China border and includes several villages that serve as gateways to the Manaslu and Larke Pass trekking routes.

Officials have advised against unnecessary travel until the weather stabilizes. Efforts are underway to monitor conditions and ensure that trekkers stranded in upper villages receive necessary support and shelter.
Scenic Beauty Amid Hardship
While the snowfall has created hardships for daily life and tourism, it has also transformed the Manaslu region into a breathtaking winter landscape. The snow-covered peaks and valleys have added to the natural charm of the area, drawing attention from photographers and adventure enthusiasts. However, with continued snowfall and falling temperatures, residents remain more focused on safety and survival than scenery.
