Efforts to expand the Tarigaun Airport, located in Tulsipur, have officially commenced, driven by leaders of Nepal’s coalition government.
On Sunday, former Chief Minister of Lumbini Province and General Secretary of the Communist Party of Nepal (UML), Shankar Pokharel, along with former Minister of Irrigation and Nepali Congress leader Deepak Giri, held discussions with Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey. The focus of their meeting was the upgradation of the airport’s runway.
During the meeting, the leaders urged the minister to allocate the necessary budget and facilitate land acquisition for the project. They also submitted a Detailed Project Report (DPR) outlining the requirements and plans for the airport expansion.
According to former Minister Giri, the proposed expansion project is estimated to cost NPR 3.42 billion. The DPR includes plans to extend the current 750-meter-long runway to 1,500 meters, enabling the airport to handle larger aircraft and increased air traffic.
The expansion of Tarigaun Airport is expected to significantly enhance the region’s connectivity and boost tourism and economic activities in Tulsipur and the surrounding areas.
