Kumari Visits Pachali Bhairab in Annual Tradition

On Tuesday evening, the living Goddess Kumari made her annual visit to Pachali Bhairab at Hanuman Dhoka, a significant event that occurs every year on Asoj Shukla Panchami. Accompanied by a vibrant procession of Bhairab from Pachali Peeth, located in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-12, Kumari’s visit is believed to bestow strength upon her.

The procession, which featured traditional musical instruments, wove through the inner cities, including Teku, Lagan, Jyabahal, Maru, Hanumandhoka, Dalachhi, Shwetbhairav, and Yangal. This yearly celebration highlights the cultural richness of the Newar community and underscores the belief that Bhairab, established in Teku, serves to ward off evil forces and protect the citizens of the Kathmandu Valley.

The Bhairav Jatra is regarded as the largest festival for the Newar community in Kathmandu. According to Shyam Krishna Khadgi, a ward member of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-12, the Jatra will culminate with the return of Bhairab to Teku, completing this cherished annual ritual.
