Pilgrims heading to Mansarovar and Mount Kailash have been affected by road damage caused by heavy rainfall on the Chinese side of the border. Chief District Officer of Rasuwa, Bednidhi Khanal, reported that a flood in the Kerung River, located five kilometers north of the Rasuwagadhi border crossing at the Miteri Bridge, has cut off the highway, halting vehicular movement.
As a result, around 500 pilgrims returning from Kailash are stranded in Kerung, while another 100 pilgrims heading towards the sacred site are stuck at Rasuwagadhi. Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force’s 20th Battalion in Rasuwa are coordinating to assist the stranded pilgrims, according to CDO Khanal.
The highway from Kathmandu to Kerung spans approximately 171 kilometers. The District Administration Office has already requested the Kerung administration to expedite the reopening of the highway to facilitate the journey of the pilgrims heading to Kailash. Deputy Superintendent of Police, Keshav Bhattarai, confirmed that Nepal Police is coordinating efforts to assist the stranded pilgrims in the Timure area.
