Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari emphasized the importance of preserving Nepal’s archaeological and historical heritage to ensure that it is passed down intact to future generations. Her remarks came during the 30th annual general meeting and 30th Khopring Honour program organized by the Bhaktapur Bikas Sahayog Sangh in Lalitpur today.
In her address, Bhandari praised Bhaktapur for its rich cultural and historical heritage, noting that the city’s vibrant cultural preservation efforts and artistic traditions contribute to its status as a living city. “Bhaktapur, enriched with cultural and historical heritages, is a city established by our ancestors. It is our responsibility to preserve these historical heritages and pass them on to future generations,” she stated.
Bhandari also commended the Bhaktapur Bikas Sahayog Sangh for its exceptional work in social services and cultural heritage preservation. She expressed confidence that the articles featured in Sangh’s Khopring paper would significantly contribute to Nepali literature.
Highlighting the Sangh’s contributions to tourism and local income generation, Bhandari mentioned the national fame of Bhaktapur’s local product, Juju Dhau (King of Yogurt).
During the event, Bhandari honored several distinguished individuals for their contributions to various fields. The honorees included philosopher and cultural thinker Jagaman Gurung, senior border expert Buddhi Narayan Shrestha, Sanskrit Siromani Hariram Joshi, senior linguist Tejeshwor Babu Gwanga, and singer Yogeshwor Amatya.
Bagmati Province Assembly member Dipendra Shrestha also acknowledged the Sangh’s impactful social work and requested land allocation for the construction of Sangh’s building. He promised to advocate for the necessary budget from the provincial government.
Sangh President Raju Mrigendra Joshi underscored that even small acts of social work can lead to significant positive changes.
