The bodies of 27 Indian tourists who lost their lives in a tragic bus accident were sent back to India on Saturday.
A plane from the Indian Army transported 25 of the bodies from Bharatpur Airport to Gorakhpur, India. The bodies of the driver and co-driver were sent by ambulance, according to Chitwan’s Chief District Officer, Indradev Yadav.
The accident occurred on Friday when a bus with an Indian license plate, traveling from Pokhara to Kathmandu, plunged into the Marsyangdi River from Ainapahara in Aanbukhaireni Rural Municipality, Tanahun. The crash resulted in the deaths of 27 people, while 16 others were injured.
The injured are currently receiving treatment at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu. The bodies of the deceased were initially taken to Bharatpur Hospital in Chitwan for post-mortem examination.
On Saturday, R. K. Khadse, India’s Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, visited Kathmandu to meet with the injured. She later traveled to Bharatpur to take custody of the bodies, which were then transported to India.
