Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung Stresses the Need for Enhanced Tourism Infrastructure

Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, emphasized the importance of strengthening tourism infrastructure in light of increasing tourist arrivals in Nepal. Speaking at the inauguration of the 30th Anniversary Celebration and Maghe Sankranti Festival organized by the Sikles Youth Club in Madi Rural Municipality-1, Minister Gurung highlighted the potential of Gandaki Province to significantly contribute to the nation’s development through the proper utilization of its natural resources.

“Gandaki Province is inherently rich in natural resources and scenic beauty. With focused efforts, it can play a pivotal role in the country’s progress,” said Minister Gurung.

The minister noted that nearly half of the tourists visiting Nepal travel to Gandaki Province, showcasing the region’s appeal. He underscored the importance of local festivals in promoting tourism, suggesting that well-organized events can highlight unique cultural traditions and attract visitors.

Minister Gurung announced plans to prioritize the blacktopping of the road connecting Pokhara to Sikles to enhance accessibility. He also revealed the government’s ambitious goal of providing internet services to every household in Nepal within this year, ensuring better connectivity in Sikles and surrounding areas.

In addition, the minister expressed commitment to improving trekking routes, including the trail from Sikles to Manang, through collaboration with local communities and tourism entrepreneurs.

“Developing trekking routes and other tourism infrastructures in partnership with locals and industry stakeholders is essential for sustainable tourism growth,” Minister Gurung stated.

The remarks by Minister Gurung at the event underscored the government’s focus on leveraging Gandaki Province’s natural and cultural assets to boost tourism while addressing the infrastructure needs of key destinations like Sikles.
