Tourism Infrastructure Vital for Development, Says FNCCI President Dhakal

The President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Chandra Prasad Dhakal, emphasized the need for robust tourism infrastructure to drive the country’s tourism development. Speaking at the Maghe Sankranti Fair 2081 and the 30th Anniversary Celebration of Sikles Youth Club in Sikles village, Madi Rural Municipality-1, Kaski, President Dhakal highlighted the importance of tourism in bolstering Nepal’s economic growth.

Addressing the event held under the theme “Promoting Rural Tourism through Sikles Festival,” Dhakal stated that Nepal’s vast tourism potential could significantly contribute to revitalizing the economy, creating employment opportunities, and fostering economic development. He added that the ongoing construction of a new cable car in Sikles would add a new dimension to the region’s tourism prospects.

“Sikles is already renowned as an attractive tourist destination both domestically and internationally. The cable car construction will not only enhance the area’s tourism infrastructure but also contribute significantly to the economic, social, and cultural development of the region,” Dhakal remarked. He further informed attendees that procedural work for the cable car project from Sikles to Kori had been completed.

Dhakal also stressed the importance of preserving local art and culture for sustainable tourism growth. He lauded the efforts of the Sikles Youth Club in preserving the region’s cultural heritage and extended his best wishes for their continued success.

Inaugurating the event, Minister for Information and Communication Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, reiterated the government’s commitment to tourism as a pillar of economic development. He assured participants that the government remains dedicated to facilitating infrastructure development and addressing other tourism-related needs.

Located in Madi Rural Municipality-1, Kaski, Sikles is a Gurung-majority village situated approximately 40 kilometers northeast of Pokhara. The village offers stunning views of the Annapurna and Lamjung Himalayan ranges, making it a favored destination for tourists seeking natural beauty and cultural immersion.

The upcoming cable car project is expected to further enhance the village’s appeal, positioning it as a key attraction in Nepal’s rural tourism landscape.
