Ministry Urges Compliance with Supreme Court’s Animal Sacrifice Regulation at Gadhimai Mela

The Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation has called upon stakeholders to comply with the Supreme Court’s decision issued on 20 Shrawan 2073 BS, which regulates animal sacrifices during the Gadhimai Mela.

In a recent press release, the ministry reminded all parties to adhere to the court’s directives amidst growing concerns regarding traditional and customary practices at the festival. The Supreme Court had previously ordered the government to refrain from any direct, indirect, or supportive involvement in animal sacrifices at the event.

The court also mandated the proper management of meat and other remains of sacrificed animals to ensure a clean and healthy environment. Measures to control environmental contamination and maintain cleanliness in the Gadhimai Temple area and its surroundings were emphasized. Additionally, it instructed authorities to test and regulate meat quality while preventing public health risks associated with blood, meat, and animal waste.

Reaffirming the court’s directives, the ministry encouraged organizers to conduct the fair in alignment with these regulations to uphold public health, environmental safety, and cultural responsibility.
