Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has announced the government’s commitment to pursuing the inclusion of the Gadhimai Temple in Bara district as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The temple, located in Bariyarpur, is renowned for its cultural and religious significance and is seen as a potential symbol to promote Nepal’s heritage on the global stage.
Minister Lekhak emphasized the government’s dedication to preserving the historic temple and ensuring its prominence in global tourism. “The Gadhimai Temple holds immense cultural value, and its recognition as a World Heritage Site would bring Nepal further into the international spotlight,” he stated during his recent visit to the site.
In preparation for the upcoming Gadhimai Fair, a major religious event that attracts thousands of pilgrims, Minister Lekhak assured seamless security management. He directed the Chief District Officer to mobilize additional security forces and stressed the need for a coordinated approach to ensure the safety of visitors.
To strengthen security measures, the minister also convened a meeting with Chief District Officers and security chiefs, underlining the importance of a well-organized fair. He urged the Gadhimai Fair organizing committee to install CCTV cameras to enhance surveillance and provide a safe and accessible environment for devotees.
The Gadhimai Fair, celebrated every five years, is a focal point of Nepal’s cultural tourism. The government’s efforts to improve security and infrastructure aim to attract more visitors and elevate the temple’s global recognition.
This initiative reflects Nepal’s broader vision of promoting its rich cultural and religious heritage on the international stage.
