The Mundum Trail, listed among Nepal’s top 100 must-visit destinations, is undergoing expansion and reconstruction. The first phase, costing NPR 10 million, is being carried out with financial and technical support from the Swiss government, in partnership with the federal, provincial, and local governments.
A public hearing was held at Hans Pokhari to inform stakeholders about the project’s budget, execution plan, and construction timeline. The first phase involves the construction and reconstruction of 5.44 km of the trail, along with three public toilets, two rest areas, and a drinking water facility for tourists.
The Swiss government is contributing 51% of the funding, while Temke Maiyung Rural Municipality provides 22%, the federal government 5%, and the provincial government 22%. Rural Municipality Vice-Chair Rama devi Rai emphasized the project’s role in economic prosperity by integrating tourism with local culture, traditions, and agriculture

The Mundum Trail is being promoted as a “Virgin Trail”, requiring strict conservation measures. Chairperson Saroj Basnet stressed the need to prevent damage from road expansion. After completing the first phase, an additional NPR 8.5 million will be invested in the second phase within this fiscal year.
As part of sustainable tourism development, training programs are being conducted to enhance hospitality services for local businesses. Over 107 locals are currently employed in trail construction, fostering job creation and community-driven tourism development.
