Galeshwar Market Beautification: Myagdi’s Bold Step Forward

The Galeshwar Market, a major religious tourist destination in Myagdi, has begun a beautification project. The project aims to make the market, a shared pilgrimage site for Hindu and Buddhist followers, more attractive to tourists and pilgrims by making the roads and walking paths inside the market area more traditional, organized, and beautiful. The area is considered the entrance to Muktinath in Mustang.

The project includes the construction of a pedestrian pathway and road from Galeshwar Bus Park to the Galeshwar Temple and Raahughat River. Slate stones will be laid on the roads, and flower pots will be placed along the sides for planting flowers, as informed by Ward Chairperson Chakrapani KC of Beni Municipality-9.

“The beautification project aims to attract and extend the stay of tourists and devotees heading to Muktinath and Mustang through Galeshwar,” said KC. “With a budget of NPR 3 million from Beni Municipality, Galeshwar Shivala Area Development Fund, and other organizations, we plan to continue and complete the project next year.”

After the slate is laid, public transport will only be allowed to use the Kaligandaki Corridor road outside the market. Construction materials and supply vehicles will be allowed to pass through the market area, with the road design ensuring no impact on the stone-laying process.

For the beautification of Galeshwar Market, Beni Municipality allocated NPR 2 million in the current fiscal year. The Galeshwar Shivala Area Development Fund contributed NPR 600,000, and the Pulah Pulastya Annakshetra and Radhakrishna Temple donated NPR 200,000 each.

The Galeshwar Temple Fund has also supported the beautification from the donation offerings made by pilgrims. The construction work has been awarded to SS Builders of Beni for NPR 2.43 million.

The construction company, represented by Navraj Baruwal, stated that the stone-laying work is currently in progress and will be completed within this fiscal year.

Galeshwar Temple, located on a large rock in the Kaligandaki River area, is believed to fulfill wishes and bring blessings to those who visit for worship. According to Hindu scriptures, the temple is named after the decapitated head of Satidevi. The temple hosts major festivals during Shrawn Mondays, Bala chaturdashi, and Shivaratri, in addition to daily worship.
