Myagdi’s 8th Annual Festival to Be Held in Beni with a Focus on Agriculture, Tourism, and Industry

The 8th Myagdi Festival, along with the Provincial Agriculture, Tourism, Industrial, and Trade Fair, will take place in Beni during the upcoming month of Magh. The event is scheduled from Poush 28 to Magh 8, 2024, with preparations already underway, including the formation of 37 sub-committees. The festival is being organized by the Myagdi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which held a press conference today to announce the details of the event.

According to Subin Shrestha, President of the Myagdi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the festival is expected to generate a business turnover of approximately Rs. 10 crore, with estimated expenses of around Rs. 1.29 crore.

“This festival will not only serve as a platform for commerce and entertainment but also play a crucial role in attracting investment to Myagdi,” Shrestha stated. “We hope it will help bring investments in sectors such as tourism, agriculture, hydroelectricity, minerals, and forest-based industries, while also promoting cultural preservation, identifying and nurturing talent, and encouraging sports.”

The festival will feature exhibitions on industrial, agricultural, and livestock products, along with sports events like men’s and women’s volleyball, and basketball, and performances by various artists. Traditional performances, including Pukhrayouli dance, Ratyouli songs, bhajans, Magdi Idol, and folk dances, as well as tribal showcases, will also be held.

One of the main attractions will be the inter-municipality men’s volleyball competition. The winner of this competition will receive a prize of Rs. 151,000, while the runner-up will be awarded Rs. 75,100. Additionally, prizes for the winners and runners-up of the Lok Dohori singing competition will amount to Rs. 101,100 and Rs. 61,100, respectively.

Proceeds from the festival will be allocated to the Myagdi Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Business Welfare Fund, with Rs. 10 lakh to be deposited, and Rs. 5 lakh will go towards the disaster relief fund. A portion of the ticket sales will also be donated to social organizations in Myagdi.

The Myagdi Festival has been an annual tradition since 2058 BS, with seven previous events held until 2078. Beni, the market area in the confluence of the Myagdi and Kali Gandaki rivers, has long been a center for the Makar Sankranti festival, where fairs have been held since ancient times.
